The Ørsted Kalundborg CO2 Hub is the first full-scale CCS value chain project in Denmark. From 2026, Ørsted will capture CO2 at their Asnæs Power Station in Kalundborg and unit at Avedøre Power Station in Greater Copenhagen. The Ørsted Kalundborg CO2 Hub will have a central role in the import and export of CO2. Ørsted is a global energy major and a leading provider of sustainable bioenergy solutions in Denmark.
As the carbon capture technology provider, SLB Capturi will deliver five Just Catch™ 100 units including additional equipment such as liquefaction systems, temporary CO2 storage and on-/offloading facilities. When operational, the facilities will capture 430,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The solution is based on a concept with the two-point sources:
1. Asnæs Power Station, wood chips boiler
2. Avedøre Power Station, straw boiler
The capture units absorb the CO2 with amine solvents, separating it from the flue gas from the heat and power plant. The CO2 is then purified, compressed, and liquefied, ready for transport. The carbon capture facilities are based on SLB Capturi’s Just Catch™ 100 modular capture plants with a standardized and compact design.
